Pakistan’s First Astronaut Namira Salim to Fly National Flag in Space This Year

Before this year ends, Namira Salim is going to do something incredible. She will proudly put Pakistan’s flag in space on Sir Richard Branson’s Virgin Galactic spaceship. This makes her the first Pakistani astronaut on this special private spaceflight.

Namira Salim has a history of representing Pakistan in space. Back in March 2008, she gave the first Pakistani flag that went to space to Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, who used to be the Prime Minister of Pakistan. This happened during a meeting in Brussels in June 2010.

It’s interesting to know that Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani’s family has a long history in Pakistan. They were important in making Pakistan independent, and his father, Makhdoom Syed Alamdar Hussain Gilani, was one of the people who signed the Pakistan Resolution.
