Pakistan’s First Double-Story Underpass Construction Begins in Lahore

The Punjab Caretaker Chief Minister, Mohsin Naqvi, has officially commenced the construction of Pakistan’s inaugural double-storey underpass, strategically situated near Barkat Market in Garden Town.

This groundbreaking project, aptly named ‘Rustam e Zaman The Great Gamma Crossing,’ is a tribute to the national hero and wrestling world champion, Gamma Pehlawan. The innovative underpass spans an impressive 700 meters with two levels, covering a total distance of 1.4 kilometers. The primary objective of this unique infrastructure initiative is to alleviate traffic congestion in the region.

Executed by the CBD team of Punjab, the simultaneous construction of these underpasses is set to establish crucial connections, linking Barkat Market to Canal Road and Jinnah Hospital. This connectivity is anticipated to provide a comprehensive solution to existing traffic challenges for individuals commuting to Iqbal Town.

The project, meticulously designed by Nespak, is scheduled for completion within a swift six-month timeframe. Once finalized, the double-storey underpass is poised to significantly enhance the overall traffic flow and accessibility in the Barkat Market vicinity, offering a more efficient and streamlined commuting experience for the residents of Garden Town.
