The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit, which will take place on May 4 and May 5 in Goa, will feature participation from Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
According to news outlet PTI, Bhutto Zardari will serve as the head of the Pakistani delegation to the SCO Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM), which will be held in Goa, India, on May 4-5, 2023.
“Our participation in the meeting reflects Pakistan’s commitment to the SCO Charter and processes as well as the importance that Pakistan accords to the region in its foreign policy priorities,” added Baloch.
She stated that the SCO moot would be attended by the Pakistani foreign minister because S. Jaishankar, the minister of external affairs, had extended an invitation to him.
Following former Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s trip there in 2014, this will be a prominent Pakistani official’s first trip to India. Hina Rabbani Khar, the former Pakistani foreign minister, visited India in 2011. India has officially invited each SCO member, including Pakistan and China.
Months after Bhutto’s criticism of PM Modi, his visit was finally announced. When S. Jaishankar, the minister of external affairs, said at the UN that “Osama killed in Pakistan,” Bilawal responded by criticising PM Modi for the riots in Gujarat in 2002.
“(I want to tell India) that although Osama bin Laden is no longer alive, India’s Prime Minister is still the butcher of Gujarat. Prior to being appointed prime minister, PM Modi was prohibited from entering this nation. The RSS’s foreign minister and prime minister are shown here. How does RSS work? Hitler’s SS served as an inspiration for the RSS, according to Zardari.
The BJP called Zardari’s remarks about Prime Minister Narendra Modi “highly shameful and derogatory” and organised protests around the country to express its outrage at the Pakistani minister.
Both the Russian and Chinese foreign ministers, Sergey Lavrov and Qin Gang, are expected to attend the conference. In September of last year, India assumed leadership of the nine-nation mega-grouping, and this year it will host the summit as well as important ministerial gatherings.
at Samarkand, Uzbekistan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Summit. The leaders of the SCO met in person for the first time since that meeting in June 2019 in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, at the 22nd Meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the SCO in September 2022. Notably, the SCO foreign ministers’ gathering this year takes place as the conflict between Russia and Ukraine escalates and India assumes the G20 presidency.
The presidents of Russia, China, the Kyrgyz Republic, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan established the SCO at a conference in Shanghai in 2001. It has grown to become one of the biggest worldwide transregional associations. India and Pakistan joined the Beijing-based SCO as full members in 2017.
