On Friday, PM Shehbaz Sharif called on Karachi business people to present a plan for a $1 billion investment from Saudi Arabia.
At a ceremony at the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry during a day trip to the metropolis, the prime minister addressed various issues, including the recent import ban and the economic crisis.
He told businessmen, “There are a billion dollars available, and it is an investment gift from Saudi Arabia. As Prime Minister, I put this before you. Sit down and come up with a feasibility plan. Install a desalination plant, and I think there will be clean water in all homes within five years”.
“Now it’s your turn. This investment is available. It’s on the table,” he said, adding that he had told Finance Minister Miftah Ismail on the flight to Karachi that he wanted to use the funds for the city.
He said the Saudis had said they were looking for a viable investment waited—opportunities in Pakistan.
