On Tuesday, during a phone call with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Microsoft co-founder and billionaire philanthropist Bill Gates informed that the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) would continue to support Pakistan “to ensure that no child is at risk of becoming paralyzed due to the poliovirus” in the country.”
According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, Bill Gates praised Pakistan’s “positive progress” in containing the disease during the call.
The two dignitaries discussed continuing public health and social sector programs, including polio eradication and supporting the Foundation to improve Pakistan’s immunization, nutrition, and financial inclusion services.
In his comments, Shehbaz underlined that Pakistan greatly valued its cooperation with the BMGF and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to converge further its “fruitful partnership with the Foundation in all areas of ongoing work”.
