President Asif Ali Zardari awarded the Sitara-i-Imtiaz to Asif Bashir for his outstanding bravery during last year’s Hajj pilgrimage.
The award ceremony took place in Islamabad, where Asif Bashir was honored for his selfless and heroic actions. As a computer operator at the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Peshawar, Bashir was sent as a Hajj Muavin (assistant) to help pilgrims during their journey in Saudi Arabia.
While on duty, he showed extraordinary courage by rescuing 26 pilgrims who had collapsed due to the intense heat. He carried them to the hospital, saving the lives of 17 people, including several Indian pilgrims. His quick thinking and tireless efforts made a difference when it mattered most.
President Zardari commended Bashir’s dedication and humanity, emphasizing that his actions are a true example of kindness and service that go beyond borders. He noted that such acts of compassion bring people together and inspire others to do good, especially in difficult situations.
