Punjab Becomes First Province to Offer Test Tube Baby Facility Free of Cost

As per recent news, the Punjab government has announced that people with fertility problems will be able to receive free test-tube baby, also known as in-vitro fertilisation (IVF), at a public facility.

The service will be offered at Lahore’s Mother & Child Hospital, which is expected to be launched by Prime Minister Imran Khan in June this year, according to Punjab Health Minister Dr Yasmin Rashid.

The IVF technique is already available at a number of private facilities across Pakistan, but this is the first time the government has made it available to the general puplic at no cost.

As per Rashid, the medical institution will treat those who are experiencing pregnancy challenges owing to physiological or reproductive issues.

In the IVF process, the baby develops as an embryo in a regulated glass jar before being implanted into the mother’s womb.

In 2017, the Federal Shariat Court ruled that IVF procedures for married couples conceiving children were permissible.
