Punjab Virtual Women Police Station Shortlisted Among World’s Top 20 Digital Governance Projects

Punjab’s Virtual Women Police Station has received global recognition. It has been shortlisted among the top 20 projects in the world for digital governance at the United Nations-backed World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Prizes 2026.

This is a big achievement for Pakistan as it is the only country with two projects shortlisted in the e-governance category. The other project is the Virtual Centre for Child Safety. Both initiatives are run by the Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA).

The Virtual Women Police Station was launched in 2024 under the vision of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif. It allows women to report crimes and seek help from home using a helpline (15) and a special mobile app. Women can register complaints with full privacy and without visiting a physical police station.

In just two years, it has handled over 935,000 cases and registered more than 80,000 FIRs. This digital platform has made it easier and safer for women to get justice quickly, especially in cases of harassment and violence.

This international recognition highlights Punjab’s efforts to use modern technology for women’s safety and good governance. It shows how digital solutions can help build a safer society.
