Qatar’s Tourism up by 347% After Fifa World Cup

In January and February of this year, Qatar welcomed close to 730,000 tourists, a 347 percent rise from the same period last year.

International visits increased by 295 percent year over year in January to 340,000, and by 406 percent in February to 389,000, according to a statement from Qatar Tourism.

February had the most foreign visitors to Qatar in the previous ten years, with the exception of the months surrounding the 2022 Fifa World Cup.

According to Berthold Trenkel, chief operating officer of Qatar Tourism, the nation’s 2030 vision calls for six to seven million tourists yearly, with tourism making about 12% of the GDP.
