Rs. 130 Million Bridge in Punjab Collapses Just Months After Completion

A newly built bridge and road project in Dera Ghazi Khan, Punjab, has collapsed just months after completion, shocking residents. The Bara Bridge and Vador Road, constructed for Rs 130 million, gave way on June 4, 2026, after a minor flow in the Vador Hill torrent (also called Rodh Kohi) triggered by rainfall on June 3.

The project was meant to improve connectivity between Dera Ghazi Khan city and several nearby settlements, including Bela, Vador Zai, Dilana, Rakh Bela, Wahi Kangrani, and Kocha Wadani. Its sudden collapse has cut off the main route, causing major problems for people. Residents now face difficulties in travelling for work, education, and medical services. Alternative paths are either unsafe or too long.

Locals had raised concerns months earlier about poor construction quality and substandard materials. Despite warnings from public representatives, no action was taken. People now demand a full investigation into alleged negligence, corruption, and the use of low-quality materials. They want strict action against the contractor and responsible officials, plus quick repair of the bridge.

This incident highlights serious issues in infrastructure development across Pakistan, where many projects fail soon after handover due to weak oversight. The Punjab government has been urged to restore the route immediately and ensure future projects meet proper engineering standards.
