Rs.150 million for illegal sale of SIMs been fined by PTA mobile operators

A large fine in the form of Rs100 million was imposed on 2 Mobile Operators by the Telecommunication Authority of Pakistan (PTA) for violations and non-compliance with regulatory laws such as sales of Grey SIMs, unauthorized sales by kiosks and licensee’s unhardened conduct with regard to the implementation of mobile SIM minimum sale pricing.

He claimed that we have penalized Rs 100 million for the issuance of biometric confirmed SIMs, and that additional Rs. 50 million for violation of SOPs.

The Committee of Chairman Maj Gen Amir Azeem Bajwa (retired), Khawar Siddique Khokhar, Member (Compliance and enforcement) and Muhammad Naveed, Chairman (Finance) of the Committee passed the cellular company’s enforcement order.

The PTA noted that the Authority had informed the licensee several times regarding the violations by taking into account the seriousness of the issue and national security implications and had directed the franchisers/resellers involved in the fraudulent sale/activation of SIMs which were allegedly used for illegally operating.
