Russia Allows Rice Import From Pakistan

Russia has approved the purchase of rice from Pakistan, according to Abdul Razak Dawood, Adviser to the Prime Minister on Commerce and Investment.

The country presently has four firms that can export rice to the Russian Federation. The embargo was overturned following efforts by Pakistan’s Ministry of Commerce, Ministry of National Food Security, and the embassy’s commerce section in Moscow.

“Breakthrough in Rice Exports! We are delighted to inform you that Russia has approved the import of Pakistani rice.” Dawood took to twitter.

The Russian Federation banned the import of Pakistani rice in May 2019 after the discovery of the Khapra beetle (Trogoderma granarium) in a rice shipment from Pakistan.
