Sarfaraz Ahmed Appointed Pakistan Head Coach for Bangladesh Test Series

Former Pakistan captain Sarfaraz Ahmed has been appointed as the head coach of the Pakistan Test team for the upcoming two-match series against Bangladesh next month. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) made the announcement on Saturday, April 18, 2026.

The series, part of the ICC World Test Championship 2025-27 cycle, will be played in Bangladesh. The first Test is scheduled from May 8 to 12 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka. The second Test will take place from May 16 to 20 at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.

Sarfaraz, who led Pakistan to victory in the 2017 Champions Trophy, will be joined by former teammates Asad Shafiq as batting coach and Umar Gul as bowling coach. Shan Masood will continue as Test captain.

The PCB has also named a 16-member squad that includes four uncapped players: Abdullah Fazal, Amad Butt, Azan Awais, and Muhammad Ghazi Ghori. The squad features experienced stars like Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Saud Shakeel, and Salman Ali Agha.

The team will assemble in Karachi on April 27 for a training camp before departing for Bangladesh on May 2. Players still involved in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) will join the camp later.

This appointment marks another change in Pakistan’s red-ball coaching setup.
