Just 29% of Pakistani women have a bank account, which is among the lowest in the world, and this imbalance impedes the country’s economic growth, according to State Bank of Pakistan Governor Dr. Reza Baqir.
According to the governor, fostering equal opportunities for women and men to access and pursue financial and technical endeavors is vital for any country’s long-term and balanced economic development.
“Improving gender equity in financial and economic opportunities will improve social development outcomes not just for the present but also for future generations,” he said.
He believes it is important to incorporate a gender perspective into current policies and business practices in order to create an equitable financial structure that benefits both men and women equally.
