Shaheen Afridi named ICC Cricketer of the Year 2021

On Monday, Pakistan bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi was named the ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year for 2021, receiving the Sir Garfield Sobers Award. In 2021, Shaheen collected 78 wickets at an average of 22.20 in 36 internationals.

Throughout 2021, the tall Pakistani fast was on fire, dismissing some of the game’s top batters in all three formats.

In Tests and T20Is, he had a very memorable year, reaching his pinnacle during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates, where he dazzled everyone with his speed and talent.

During Pakistan’s journey to the semi-finals, he would take seven wickets in six matches.

Throughout the calendar year, he dominated the shortest format, taking 23 wickets in 21 matches and improving his death bowling by leaps and bounds.

Afridi came alive during the home series against South Africa after a difficult start to the year in Test cricket in New Zealand.

Throughout the rest of the year, he maintained his outstanding form on away tours to Zimbabwe, the West Indies, and Bangladesh. In total, he took 47 wickets for a stunning average of 17.06 in only nine matches.
