The West Stand of the Sharjah Cricket Stadium in the United Arab Emirates has been renamed in honour of one of cricket’s greatest legends, Sachin Tendulkar.
In a One-Day International called “Desert Storm” in April 1998 at the stadium, Tendulkar scored 143 runs against Australia despite a play-stopping sandstorm that delayed play for 25 minutes.
After hitting 134 runs on his 25th birthday, Tendulkar’s effort carried India to the tri-series championship match against Australia, which India won by six wickets.
Khalaf Bukhatir, CEO of Sharjah Cricket, remarked, “I can’t forget his birthday celebrations.” “I consider myself fortunate to have been present,” said one audience member. “It captivated the entire audience.”
Everyone who saw it, including Sachin, will always remember that day, he said.
