To address concerns about counterfeit currency, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has taken a creative step by launching an Art Competition aimed at sourcing new designs for a forthcoming series of banknotes.
The SBP has extended an invitation to local artists, designers, and art students, encouraging them to contribute their creativity to the nation’s currency. The competition centers around themes like social and cultural identities, demographic diversity, climate change, environmental protection, economic development, natural landscapes, architectural heritage, and national symbols.
Artists have been given until March 11, 2024, to submit their designs to the Finance Department at the SBP headquarters in Karachi. The SBP has also announced cash prizes for the top three designs, with specific criteria for submission, distinctive color schemes for denominations, and the involvement of a jury to assess and select the winning designs.
This innovative initiative not only fosters artistic expression but also involves the public in shaping the visual representation of the country’s currency. The competition provides a unique opportunity for artists to contribute to the security and aesthetic appeal of Pakistan’s banknotes.
