Study Reveals that Electric Vehicles Will Be Cheaper than Combustion by 2027

According to a study on Monday, electric cars would be cheaper to manufacture than fossil fuel vehicles in Europe within six years, and could account for 100% of new sales by 2035.

Carmakers are converting large numbers of vehicles to electric and hybrid models in order to meet a European Union limit of 95 grams of carbon dioxide per kilometer, or face stiff penalties.

From 2026, according to Bloomberg New Energy Finance, hybrid sedans and sport utility vehicles would be as cheap to manufacture as combustion vehicles.

According to the report, which was commissioned by Transport and Environment, a European clean transportation campaign organization, small cars would have to wait until 2027 to equal the cost of fossil fuel models.
