A 22-year-old man from Toba Tek Singh reportedly had to undergo a second surgery after a medical instrument was allegedly left inside his chest during a heart procedure at a hospital in Faisalabad.
According to reports, the young patient, identified as Saqlain, had an open-heart surgery on April 4 for treatment of a heart condition. After returning home, he allegedly continued to experience severe chest pain and discomfort, raising concerns about possible complications from the operation.
The patient later visited doctors for further examination. Medical tests, including an X-ray, reportedly showed that a surgical instrument had remained inside his body after the first procedure. Following the discovery, doctors performed another surgery to remove the object.
The reported incident has raised questions about safety procedures followed during major operations. Hospital officials said an internal inquiry had been started to determine how the situation occurred and who may be responsible.
Initial findings reportedly suggested that mistakes in counting surgical tools before completing the operation could have played a role. However, authorities stated that investigations are still ongoing and final conclusions will be made after reviewing all details.
Medical experts often stress the importance of strict operating room protocols to reduce the risk of such incidents and improve patient safety. Cases involving retained surgical items are considered serious because they can lead to pain, infections, and additional medical procedures.
The hospital administration has not yet shared complete findings of the inquiry, while the incident continues to draw public attention and concern over healthcare standards.
