On Monday, Pakistan’s Chief Justice (CJP), Umar Ata Bandial, questioned why the Supreme Court should deal with political issues when its judgments are criticized by crowds of “10 to 15,000 people.”
The chief justice’s remarks come just days after former PM Imran Khan publicly asked the Supreme Court to clarify why it felt the need to open its doors at midnight on April 9, hours before he was removed from the PM’s Office after a successful no-confidence motion in the National Assembly.
The High Court and the Islamabad High Court (IHC) had stayed open past their scheduled hours. The poll was eventually held, and Khan was voted out of the top job.
