The Punjab Motor Registration Authority Makes A 600% Profit On Car Transfers

According to sources, the Punjab Motor Registration Authority (PMRA) of the Punjab Excise and Taxation Department (ETD) has been charging motorists an excess of Rs. Three hundred sixty million in transfer deed expenses each year.

The PMRA is the only place where a driver may obtain an ownership transfer deed, which is required for anyone intending to change the ownership of a car and costs Rs. 300.

While speaking on the subject, an ETD spokeswoman stated that all proceeds from the sale of transfer documents are placed in a revolving fund and used to fund various ETD projects that benefit the public.

According to the spokeswoman, the revenues do not go to anyone and are instead put in the state treasury, which is audited annually.
