The M-1 Motorway connecting Islamabad and Peshawar has been reopened for all categories of traffic after remaining closed for five days. The National Highways and Motorway Police confirmed that vehicles can now travel on the route in both directions.
The reopening is expected to ease difficulties for commuters, transporters and other motorists who had been using alternative routes during the closure.
Authorities have, however, advised travellers to remain aware of ongoing rehabilitation work on several sections of the motorway network. Work is continuing on the M-14 section between Hakla and Kundal, along with the connecting loop linking the M-1 with the Hazara Motorway.
Motorists travelling from Islamabad towards Abbottabad have also been provided with an alternative route. They can leave the motorway through Burhan Interchange and continue along the GT Road towards Hasan Abdal. From there, travellers can access the Hazara Expressway again through Jhary Kas Interchange.
Meanwhile, the N-5 GT Road between Islamabad and Peshawar remains available for traffic, providing another option for people travelling between the two cities.
The reopening of the M-1 restores a major road connection between Islamabad and Peshawar, while rehabilitation activities continue at other locations. Motorists using the motorway network are advised to follow traffic instructions and remain cautious near areas where road work is underway.
The latest update is particularly relevant for long-distance travellers and commercial transport operators who rely on the M-1 and connected highways for regular journeys between northern parts of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
