US President Donald Trump is set to present some of America’s highest honours for science and technology to a group of prominent technology leaders at the White House on Thursday.
Elon Musk, Google co-founder Sergey Brin, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang and AMD CEO Lisa Su will receive the National Medal of Science during the “Science: A New Golden Age” summit. The award is the United States’ highest national honour for scientists and engineers.
The ceremony will also recognise leaders in the technology sector. Dell Technologies CEO Michael Dell and Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella are scheduled to receive the National Medal of Technology and Innovation, the country’s top honour for technological achievement.
The White House said the awards recognise contributions to science and technology and highlighted the recipients’ role in advancing innovation in the United States. The ceremony will take place as part of a broader summit focused on scientific discovery and America’s future in emerging technologies.
The event comes as the Trump administration promotes a new approach to scientific research, with greater emphasis on innovation, artificial intelligence and private-sector involvement. The White House’s “Science: A New Golden Age” report outlines plans to reshape the US research and development system and strengthen the country’s position in emerging technologies.
The awards bring together major figures from the technology, semiconductor, artificial intelligence and space sectors for one of the administration’s major science-focused events.
