Twitter to Soon Allow Voice and Video Calls, Encrypted Messaging without Giving Phone Number

Elon Musk, the Chief Executive of Twitter Inc, recently shared details about upcoming features on the platform, including encrypted messaging and the addition of voice and video calls. Musk had previously mentioned plans for “Twitter 2.0 The Everything App,” which would introduce features like encrypted direct messages, longform tweets, and payment options.

In a tweet, Musk announced that voice and video chat capabilities would be added to Twitter, allowing users to communicate with others around the world without sharing their phone numbers.

The introduction of calling features will bring Twitter in line with social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram, which already offer similar functionalities. Musk also mentioned that a version of encrypted direct messages would be launched on Twitter starting Wednesday, although it is unclear if the calling feature will also be encrypted.

Additionally, Twitter has recently announced its intention to remove and archive inactive accounts that have been dormant for several years as part of a cleansing process.
