UAE New Year Holiday Announced for Private Sector

The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation has declared a public holiday for private sector workers in the UAE on January 1, allowing them paid leave to celebrate New Year’s Day. This decision aligns with the 2019 decree by the UAE Cabinet, ensuring that both public and private sector employees enjoy an equal number of public holidays annually.

The Federal Authority for Government Human Resources had earlier announced January 1 as a holiday for the public sector. This synchronized approach emphasizes the government’s commitment to parity in granting time off for all workers.

The timing of the holiday coincides with New Year’s Eve festivities, including the renowned fireworks show at Dubai’s Burj Khalifa. Emaar, the developer of the iconic tower, has organized a ticketed year-end party at Burj Park, offering prime views of the Burj Khalifa and Dubai Fountain shows. With tickets priced at Dh150 for children and Dh300 for adults, this event provides a unique opportunity for residents and visitors to usher in the new year in the vibrant heart of Downtown Dubai.

As employees return to work on January 2, the holiday not only allows for personal celebrations but also contributes to the broader cultural and social experiences enjoyed by the community during this festive season.
