Pakistan’s Senate Standing Committee on Interior has raised serious concerns about travel problems faced by blue passport holders. Many parliamentarians, diplomats, and their families are being offloaded or stopped at UAE airports, especially in Dubai, despite holding official Pakistani passports.
Blue passports are given to high-ranking officials, parliamentarians, and diplomats for easier official travel. Under agreements between Pakistan and the UAE, these passport holders should enjoy visa-free entry or smooth facilitation. However, lawmakers reported inconsistent treatment and sudden checks during immigration. Some members complained that even their families faced difficulties boarding flights or entering the UAE.
The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) also informed the committee about cases of misuse of diplomatic and official passports at airports in Dubai and other places. Officials noted that fraudulent travel records have been detected, which may have led to stricter scrutiny by UAE authorities.
Interior Ministry representatives assured the committee that the issue is being handled through diplomatic channels. They are coordinating with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to resolve these problems and ensure smooth travel for official passport holders.
This situation comes amid broader concerns about visa policies and immigration checks for Pakistani travelers in recent months. The committee urged the government to take strong steps so that bilateral agreements are respected and official travelers do not face unnecessary hurdles.
The government is expected to engage actively with UAE authorities to fix the problem soon.
