According to Adobe Digital Insights (ADI) data released on Friday, online sales in the United States reached $5.1 billion on Thanksgiving Day, which was on the low end of predictions. On Thanksgiving Day, the digital market research firm predicted online sales of $5.1-$5.9 billion.
While this year’s e-commerce statistic was similar to previous years, online expenditure was up nearly 21% from Thanksgiving Day in 2019. The lower-than-expected online sales could be due to global supply chain challenges and American shoppers starting their Christmas shopping early this year, which begins on November 1 and ends on New Year’s Eve.
