Approximately 47,000 sacks of wheat have reportedly gone missing from a government warehouse in Sindh’s Khairpur district.
These wheat sacks, worth about Rs800 million and bought by the Sindh government, were found to be absent from the storage facility.
To address the issue, the Sindh Food Department has taken action by suspending three food officers involved. Those suspended include the district food controller of Khairpur, the food supervisor in charge, and the food inspector.
This incident is not unique, as similar situations have happened before. In 2022, a significant amount of wheat disappeared from Sindh government warehouses in Naushehro Feroze.
Additionally, during a meeting at the CM House on March 20, the Sindh cabinet decided to set a wheat procurement target of 900,000 tonnes. The meeting was attended by various provincial ministers, advisors, and officials, including the new Chief Secretary Asif Hyder Shah, Advocate General, and Prosecutor General.
