Who Will be the Mayor of Karachi?

Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) was suggested as a coalition partner by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Tuesday in order to elect Karachi’s mayor and deputy mayor.

In a phone call with JI Ameer Sirajul Haq, a top PTI member asked about forming an alliance to defeat the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), which won 93 seats in the Karachi local government (LG) elections.

Sirajul Haq then set the party meeting for today (Tuesday) to allow for discussion of the PTI offer.

He termed the rumor’s untrue and denied that Saeed Ghani, the Sindh Labor minister, had approached him.

With 93 seats, PPP won the most seats in the Karachi Local Government elections, followed by JI with 86 seats and PTI with 40 seats.

No one party can elect their candidate to the important position of Karachi mayor since at least 124 votes are needed.

In this situation, JI and PTI working together will put them in a position to create local government, while PPP will either have to make an alliance with JI or PTI to have their own mayor.

Seats were taken: Hafiz Naeem JI Karachi’s chairman and mayoral candidate said that they would engage in a judicial and political battle to keep at least 10 seats that the PPP had ‘snatched’ from them.

He said in a video going viral on social media that the actual results were different and JI had won at least 10 more seats in the various Karachi UCs.
