The Royal Commonwealth Society has made an exciting and historic announcement for young students. The Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition 2023 is the opportunity.

Thousands of young people from various schools participated in the Commonwealth Essay Competition. The programme aims to inspire youngsters and give them the self-assurance they need to speak up via their writing and take action to improve the world.

Since 1883, there has been an annual international essay contest. Each essay competition has a theme utilised by students from all 52 Commonwealth nations.

The main themes of the essay are democracy and equality in general. For their entries in the Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition 2022, participants are asked to consider the benefits of commitment and selflessness in service to our Commonwealth. There are two categories and the Eligibility Criteria for the contestants in this global writing competition 2023 from Commonwealth nations:

  • Senior Category: (Born between 1 July 2004 and 30 June 2009) (14-18 years)
  • Junior Category: (Born on or after 1 July 2009) (Under 14 years of age)
  • Residents or citizens of all Commonwealth counties and territories may apply.
  • Residents of Ireland, Hong Kong and Zimbabwe can apply.
  • In the case of participants from non-Commonwealth countries, their entries should be submitted through their local Royal Commonwealth Society branch.
  • Entries must be submitted in the English language. Essays in any other language will not be accepted.
  • Maximum word count for senior category is 1500 words and maximum word limit for junior category is 750 words. Exceeding the wording will result in disqualification of the candidate.
  • The word limit applies to every format of writing such as essay, poem, letter, etc
  • Citations and footnotes are excluded from the word count.
  • Essay uploaded by entrants should not contain personal details of participants. Personal details will be provided exclusively during the application process.
  • The topics should be chosen according to the topics given in the senior and junior categories.
  • Any plagiarism will not be tolerated and plagiarized entries will be automatically rejected.

Nonetheless, the essay topic varies according to each category. Also, there is a champion and runner-up in each category. The following paragraphs provide a detailed illustration of the essay competition’s topics.
