The Punjab government has announced a significant expansion of its electric bike initiative, introducing a major relief package aimed at making transportation more accessible for women students across the province.
Under the revised scheme, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has approved government-funded down payments and registration fees, removing two of the biggest upfront costs for eligible applicants.
As a result, female students will be able to receive an electric bike by paying just Rs. 2,100 per month through easy, interest-free instalments.
The initiative is designed to ease transportation challenges faced by students, particularly those who travel long distances to schools, colleges, and universities.
By reducing financial barriers, the government hopes to improve access to education, increase female enrolment, and encourage more women to continue their studies without transportation difficulties.
The Punjab government also plans to significantly expand the programme over the coming year, with a target of distributing 100,000 electric bikes.
To further support beneficiaries, the government will provide a subsidy of Rs. 70,000 for each electric bike, making the scheme more affordable and accessible for thousands of students throughout the province.
