Only 14% of Pakistanis now believe the country’s economy is strong, meaning around one in seven people share this view, according to a new Ipsos Consumer Confidence survey. The figure was around 20%, or one in five, four months earlier, showing a decline in public confidence.
Inflation remains the biggest concern among Pakistanis, followed by unemployment, poverty and rising electricity prices. Power load-shedding has also moved into the top five concerns, with more people now worried about electricity shortages than additional taxes.
The survey found that only 15% of respondents feel confident about making investments, while just 16% feel secure about their jobs. These figures show that many people remain careful about making major financial decisions.
At the same time, around one in four Pakistanis expects the economy to improve, while only one in four believes the country is moving in the right direction.
Ipsos Pakistan Managing Director Abdul Sattar said the latest results point to cautious recovery rather than strong confidence. Personal expectations have improved somewhat, but concerns over inflation, employment and household finances continue to affect public sentiment.
