Gujranwala experienced record-breaking monsoon rains, receiving around 220mm in a single spell. This heavy downpour broke the city’s 10-year rainfall record and caused widespread urban flooding.
Torrential rain submerged many low-lying areas, major roads, neighborhoods, and key intersections. Residents faced waterlogged streets, traffic jams, and flooded homes. Emergency services worked hard to help people and clear water from important places.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department had earlier warned about strong monsoon activity in Punjab. Gujranwala’s heavy rainfall is part of the current wet spell affecting several parts of the province.
This event once again shows how vulnerable Gujranwala is to urban flooding during the monsoon season. Poor drainage systems and rapid urbanization make the problem worse when heavy rain hits the city.
Local authorities are on high alert. They have urged citizens to stay indoors, avoid unnecessary travel, and follow safety instructions until the water level goes down.
