Fourteen schoolchildren were injured after bottles containing chemicals broke inside a private school in Lodhran, Punjab, on Friday, September 18.
The incident took place at Rehman Public School near the Multan Road bypass. According to Rescue 1122 officials, the children were playing inside a classroom during recess when a ball hit chemical bottles placed on a shelf. The bottles fell and broke, splashing the chemical onto nearby students and causing burn injuries.
Rescue 1122 received the emergency call at 10:52am and reached the school within about three minutes. Four ambulances, two motorcycles, a rescue vehicle and a fire tender were sent to the site. The injured children were given first aid before being taken to District Headquarters Hospital, Lodhran. No deaths were reported.
Dawn reported that one six-year-old boy, Hasan, suffered burns over 27% of his body and was later shifted to the Burns Unit at Nishtar Hospital in Multan. The other children remained under treatment at the DHQ hospital.
Police registered a case against school owner Chaudhry Muhammad Aslam over alleged negligence. Officials said an investigation into the incident was underway.
