Naila Kiani, a Pakistani mountaineer, has achieved something truly remarkable by becoming the first woman from Pakistan to climb 11 peaks that are taller than 8,000 meters. Her latest accomplishment was reaching the summit of Makalu, the fifth-highest peak in the world at 8,485 meters, located in Nepal.
Kiani reached the top at around 8:50 am (PST), making history in Pakistani mountaineering. She thanked her fellow Pakistanis for their prayers and support, as well as Sherpa Gelgen Dai from Imagine Nepal, who helped her throughout the journey.
Before this amazing achievement, Kiani had already made big contributions to mountaineering. She was the first Pakistani woman to climb all of Pakistan’s 8,000-meter peaks and had climbed 10 eight-thousanders before, showing that she’s a true pioneer in the sport.
Apart from her climbing successes, Kiani is also accomplished in other areas. She has a degree in aerospace engineering from the University of London and has worked as an associate vice president at a multinational bank based in the UK.
Her commitment to mountaineering and her work in social causes have earned her recognition from the Pakistani government. She was awarded the Sitara-e-Imtiaz, which is one of the highest civilian honors in the country.
