An Azerbaijan Airlines flight, J2-8243, traveling from Baku to Grozny, crashed near Aktau, Kazakhstan, while attempting an emergency landing. The plane had been rerouted to Aktau because of heavy fog in Grozny.
There were 67 people on board when the aircraft crashed into an open field about three kilometers from Aktau. The crash caused the plane to catch fire. Tragically, 42 people are feared dead. Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene, extinguishing the flames and rescuing survivors.
A total of 27 people were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. The airline has confirmed the location of the crash and expressed deep concern for those affected.
Authorities have started an investigation to determine what caused the crash. A technical problem with the aircraft is one of the possible reasons being looked into.
