Pakistan’s imports of completely built-up (CBU) cars jumped sharply in September 2026, raising concerns among local auto parts manufacturers about declining business, reduced production and potential job losses.
Imports of new vehicles increased more than sixfold from August to 2,407 units, while used-car imports more than doubled to 2,454 units, taking the combined total to 4,861 vehicles.
Abdur Rehman Aizaz, chairperson of the Pakistan Association of Automotive Parts & Accessories Manufacturers, warned that the growing influx could affect around 1,200 local suppliers, as imported vehicles arrive fully assembled without using locally manufactured components.
However, he acknowledged that used-car imports give consumers more options at competitive prices.
