Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has announced that households using up to 300 electricity units per month will get free electricity. This step aims to reduce the burden of high electricity costs for low-income families.
Speaking at a ceremony for distributing solar home systems, he introduced a World Bank-backed project that will provide affordable solar energy kits to 200,000 families in Sindh. These kits will help homes switch to solar power, reducing their dependence on the national grid.
The project is set to be completed by July 2025, with 400 kits distributed in each district every week. The goal is to make clean energy more accessible and affordable. Sindh is already making progress in this area, as the Thar Coal project now contributes 3,300 MW of electricity to Pakistan’s national grid.
Murad Ali Shah credited President Asif Ali Zardari for his efforts in making this project possible. He also appreciated the work of Energy Minister Nasir Hussain Shah and the partnership with the World Bank.
This initiative is part of Sindh’s broader plan to lead Pakistan in clean energy development. By supporting solar power and other renewable energy sources, the government aims to provide long-term relief to low-income households and promote sustainable energy solutions.
