Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has ordered the Inspector General of Police to identify and remove all corrupt officers from the force within one week. She issued the firm directive during a high-level meeting on law and order held in Lahore on Tuesday.
Maryam Nawaz made clear that officers with a reputation for corruption must never be appointed as Station House Officers. She demanded strict accountability across the police force and zero tolerance for any form of wrongdoing.
Protecting women and children remains her top priority. She called these groups her “red line” and ordered a detailed plan to end crimes against them. No one involved in such offences will be spared, she stressed.
The meeting also approved practical steps to strengthen policing. Operational control of the Dolphin Police will now be linked directly with local police stations for better coordination. All Punjab Police personnel must receive body cameras by 30 September. Prisoner vans will get GPS trackers and cameras to stop escapes.
Further, the Chief Minister directed stronger action against burglary and a special clean-up drive to wipe out crime in Sheikhupura. District police officers in high-crime areas will face personal accountability.
Official figures presented at the meeting showed clear progress: robberies down 54%, murders down 35%, car robberies down 46% and motorcycle thefts down 53% across Punjab.
