Sindh Govt to pay Rs 6b for existing KCR, keep working for modern KCR: CM Sindh

On Monday, CM Sindh- Syed Murad Ali Shah highlighted that the provincial government was committed to investing Rs6 billion for development work to completely operationalize the Karachi Circular Railway (KCR).

While addressing over a meeting on the KCR at the CM House, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah committed to keep his statement on the task. He requested railway authorities to have the project’s PC-I approved by the federal government. He further added that he will defend the current KCR while likewise trying to understand individuals of Karachi’s craving for a modernized KCR.

He told railroad authorities that his administration will help them in redesigning the current KCR’s activity.

Furthermore, the gathering was educated that the maintenance regarding a 14-kilometer track from the City Station to the Orangi Station was done on February 10, 2021, with two trains working every day.

The Supreme Court ordered on June 18, Sindh Govt to complete the process for PC-I approval, contract signing, & issue of work orders for the refreshed plan of the KCR lines within one month.

The SC’s three-member bench, chaired by Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed, upon releasing order on Sindh Govt report on KCR’s revised plan, ordered Govt of Sindh to make sure that all the necessary financial resources are available, so that project could be finished as soon as possible.

Previously, the FWO counsel had pointed out that the feasibility report appropriately supported by the Pakistan Railways has been submitted to the Sindh government, which has neither endorsed the PC-I nor has any agreement been marked or work order gave to the FWO

To a court inquiry about the rebelliousness of the court mandates, the AG Sindh presented that the FWO, in consultation with the Pakistan Railways, has changed the extent of the project and has presented a feasibility report, which needed certain parts of the KCR route to be raised and certain branch lines to be associated with the mainstream, which would go much beyond the financial commitment made by the Sindh Govt.

Considering the AG Sindh’s statement, Commander FWO guaranteed that his administration had plotted the KCR route with experts & consultants & found that it was difficult to construct underpasses & overhead bridges in some areas, & that the most easiest way to make work the railways was to uplift the railway line to reduce traffic barrier.
