Cyclone in Karachi? Arabian Sea low-Pressure System at 1058 KM Distance from Karachi

A low-pressure weather system in the Arabian Sea, located about 1,058 kilometers southeast of Karachi, has developed into a depression.

This system is currently positioned near latitude 17.1° N and longitude 73.0° E. Forecasters say it is expected to move eastward and may reach the Indian coastline near the Konkan region by midday.

At present, there is no direct danger to Pakistan’s coastal areas, including Karachi. The Cyclone Warning Center in Karachi is keeping a close watch on this weather development to ensure timely updates and safety precautions if needed.

The warm sea temperatures in the Arabian Sea are helping this weather system gain strength. Because of this, Karachi could experience hotter than usual temperatures in the coming days. Meteorologists explain that the usual cooling effect of the sea breeze might weaken due to this weather activity.

Earlier predictions suggested that this system might grow stronger and become a deep depression or even a cyclone by May 24 or 25, depending on weather conditions. If it does turn into a cyclone, it will be named “Shakti,” a name submitted by Sri Lanka, meaning “power.”

In response to this situation, the Pakistan Fisherfolk Forum has advised fishermen to avoid venturing into the open sea for the next few days. This precaution is to protect them from strong tides and rough sea conditions that may arise as the system approaches closer to the region.

While the system remains far from Karachi for now, local authorities and experts continue to monitor the situation carefully to keep the public informed and safe.
