Malaysia has once again welcomed students from around the world with an exciting scholarship opportunity for postgraduate studies. The Malaysian International Scholarship (MIS) is now open for the 2025–2026 academic year, offering students the chance to pursue a Master’s or PhD degree in one of Asia’s most culturally rich and naturally beautiful countries.
Funded by the Malaysian Ministry of Education, the MIS is aimed at talented graduates from developing and underdeveloped countries. This initiative supports Malaysia’s goal of becoming a hub for quality education and international collaboration. It gives students not only access to world-class education but also a chance to experience Malaysia’s vibrant lifestyle, warm hospitality, and stunning landscapes.
The scholarship program covers a wide range of study fields, including engineering, social sciences, health (excluding medicine and nursing), business, education, and agriculture, among others. The MIS includes full tuition fee coverage and a monthly allowance of RM 1,500 for the duration of the degree two years for Master’s and three years for PhD programs.
Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree with strong academic performance for Master’s studies or a relevant Master’s degree for PhD programs. Candidates must be no older than 40 to 45 years at the time of application and demonstrate English language proficiency through IELTS or TOEFL. A well-prepared research proposal and letters of recommendation are also part of the required documents.
Students can apply to top Malaysian public universities and selected private institutions such as Universiti Malaya (UM), Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), and many others. Applications are accepted only through the official online portal, and candidates can apply to up to three universities.
With no application fee and wide eligibility including applicants from ASEAN, Commonwealth countries, and many other regions the MIS offers a unique pathway for students to advance their education and professional goals in an international setting.
