A special court in Islamabad has sentenced PTI founder and former prime minister Imran Khan, along with his wife Bushra Bibi, to 17 years in pris_on in the Toshakhana-2 case.
The announcement was made on Saturday by Special Judge Shahrukh Arjumand at Adiala Ja_il. Both were found guilty on multiple legal charges after weeks of hearings and evidence examination.
According to the verdict, Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi were handed 10 years in pris_on under Section 409, which deals with crim_inal breach of trust. An additional 7 years were given under Sections 5, 2 and 47 of the relevant laws, bringing their total sentence to 17 years each.
However, the court ruled that these sentences will run concurrently, meaning both will serve 17 years in total rather than separately for each charge.
The court has also ordered both to pay fines of Rs16.45 million. This financial penalty will be applied individually, further adding to the legal consequences they now face.
The Toshakhana-2 case involves allegations related to the misuse and illegal sale of state gifts. Prosecutors argued that valuable items received by Imran Khan during his time as prime minister were not properly declared and were instead misused for personal gain. The defence team denied the accusations and said the charges were politically motivated.
This latest ruling comes at a time of ongoing political tension in Pakistan. Supporters of Imran Khan are calling the verdict unfair while government officials say the judgment reflects accountability and adherence to law.
Bushra Bibi’s sentencing has also drawn public attention, as it marks a rare case where a political leader’s spouse has been given a lengthy pris_on term.
Legal experts believe the case may move to higher courts through appeals, making this trial another major chapter in Pakistan’s political and judicial history.
