Private medical colleges in Pakistan will not be allowed to charge more than Rs. 2.1 million per year without prior government approval, Health Minister Mustafa Kamal informed the National Assembly.
The decision is aimed at improving oversight and preventing excessive increases in medical education costs.
According to the minister, 61 private medical colleges had requested permission to increase their fees. Following a review of their facilities, operational expenses and other financial requirements, 35 institutions were permitted to charge fees of up to Rs. 2.1 million annually.
The government has also introduced a complaint portal where students and parents can report concerns regarding unauthorized fees or violations of the approved fee structure.
Authorities have warned that strict action will be taken against medical colleges found charging students beyond the officially permitted limits without approval.
