Protests broke out in Karachi following the reported assassination of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, as demonstrators gathered outside the United States Consulate to express anger and condemnation.
Large crowds marched toward the diplomatic area, chanting slogans and holding protests against recent developments in the region.
According to local authorities, some protesters attempted to cross security barriers and caused damage to property near the consulate.
Police and security forces were quickly deployed to control the situation and prevent protesters from entering the restricted zone. Law enforcement used crowd-control measures to disperse the gathering.
Several people were reportedly injured during clashes between protesters and security personnel. Emergency teams shifted the injured to nearby hospitals for treatment. Authorities also closed roads surrounding the consulate to maintain security and avoid further unrest.
Officials urged citizens to remain peaceful and avoid sensitive locations as security remained on high alert across the city following the protests.
