Google has announced one of the biggest updates to Google Maps in the last decade. The update introduces a new artificial intelligence feature called “Ask Maps” and an improved 3D navigation system designed to make travel easier and more interactive for users.
The new Ask Maps feature is powered by Gemini, Google’s advanced AI model. It allows users to ask questions in simple language while using the app. Instead of typing short search terms, people can ask detailed questions such as where to find good restaurants, coffee shops, or places to visit along their route. The system then provides helpful suggestions based on location and user preferences.
The feature can also personalize recommendations. For example, if someone prefers vegan food or has saved certain places in their Google account, the app can suggest similar locations nearby.
Another important part of the update is Immersive Navigation. This feature gives users a detailed 3D view of roads, buildings, and surrounding areas while driving or walking. It also highlights important road details such as traffic lights, lane guidance, and pedestrian crossings.
Google says the update will also improve voice directions, provide better route insights, and help users find parking spaces more easily.
The new features will first roll out in the United States and India, with plans to expand to other countries later as the technology becomes available globally.
