Shawwal Moon Not Sighted in Bangladesh & India, Eid-ul-Fitr to be Observed on Saturday

Countries including India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Malaysia will celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr on Saturday, March 21, 2026, after authorities confirmed that the Shawwal moon was not sighted.

Religious authorities, mosque officials, and ministries of religious affairs in these countries followed the traditional moon sighting procedures before making the announcement.

Since the moon was not visible on the 29th day of Ramadan, the holy month will complete 30 days before Eid is observed.

Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates will celebrate Eid on Friday, March 20, after confirming the moon sighting earlier. The difference in dates reflects regional variations in observing the lunar calendar.

The Colombo Grand Mosque also confirmed March 21 as the day for Eid prayers and celebrations. Citizens in these countries are now preparing for festive gatherings, special prayers, and cultural activities.

People are advised to follow official announcements from local authorities to ensure accurate observance of Eid. Authorities emphasize safety and community coordination during the festive period.
