Pakistan’s security forces on Wednesday, September 23, claimed they shot down eight drones after they entered the country’s airspace from Afghanistan. The incident took place near the Torkham border and in areas close to Kohat, according to Pakistani security sources.
Officials said Pakistan’s air defence systems detected and intercepted all eight drones. Four were reportedly brought down near the Torkham border, while the other four were shot down in mountainous areas near Kohat.
Pakistan’s security sources described the drones as being launched by the Afghan Taliban and alleged that the incident was linked to attempts to target public areas. The claim has been made by Pakistani officials, and independent confirmation of the origin and intended targets of the drones was not immediately available.
The latest incident comes amid growing tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan. Islamabad has repeatedly accused the Taliban administration of allowing militant groups, including the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), to operate from Afghan territory. Kabul has rejected such accusations.
Pakistan has reported several similar incidents this year. In June, a drone was reportedly intercepted in Khyber, while four drones were shot down in Balochistan in July.
