Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has become the centre of attention after her name appeared in recent matriculation exam papers.
Students sitting for Class 10 exams were surprised to find questions such as “What do you know about Maryam Nawaz Sharif?” The same paper also included questions about historical figures like Ra’ana Liaquat Ali Khan, the first lady of Pakistan.
The inclusion of a living political leader in board exams has sparked a lively debate among students, teachers, and the public. Some people welcomed the question, saying it helps students stay aware of current national affairs and important public figures. They believe modern education should include general knowledge about today’s leaders along with history.
However, many others criticised the move. They argue that school exams should remain completely neutral and free from political influence. Critics feel that mixing current politics with education may create bias and is not suitable for young students.
Education boards in Pakistan have been adding more analytical and current affairs questions in recent years. While this aims to make learning more relevant, the debate shows how sensitive the issue of political content in exams can be.
So far, the Punjab education authorities have not issued any official statement on the matter. The controversy continues to be widely discussed on social media.
