Azerbaijan Ready to Supply LNG Amid Pakistan’s Gas Shortage

SOCAR, the state energy company of Azerbaijan, has shown willingness to supply liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Pakistan. This offer comes as disruptions near the Strait of Hormuz are affecting existing energy supply routes.

SOCAR said that a framework agreement signed in 2025 between its trading arm and Pakistan LNG Limited allows Pakistan to purchase LNG cargoes through a fast-track system.

The company added that it is ready to move forward as soon as Pakistan LNG Limited makes a formal request.

The offer comes at a time when Pakistan is looking for spot LNG cargoes to manage a growing energy shortage. The country is facing reduced domestic gas production, while global LNG markets are also becoming uncertain due to tensions in the Middle East.

The situation has become more serious because of disruptions linked to the Strait of Hormuz, which is one of the most important global routes for energy supplies.

According to officials from Pakistan’s Petroleum Division, four LNG shipments from QatarEnergy have been stopped after Iran reportedly restricted movement through the strait.

Pakistan State Oil, which was handling these shipments under agreements with QatarEnergy, has informed authorities that deliveries are on hold until conditions improve.

Officials believe that alternative supply options like SOCAR’s offer could help Pakistan manage its energy needs during this uncertain period.
